Alright, this page is simply a little collection of tidbits and doodads I've done over the months n years that I was gone.
I didn't really want to post or upload any of them, knowing that it's incomplete stuff, things I still wanted to post with the rest. But seeing how my health never really improved I wondered if it's worth holding on to these random sketches I might not even end up using.
So here. Maybe someone out there will like them despite the problems connected to them.
First up, Fia's final look
It might not have been hard to tell, but since most of you have seen me changing/updating Fia's look over time, I've never quite been satisfied with how she turned out.
Not just looks wise, also writing, as couldn't quite convey either, but over time I think I've got a better feel, eventually having ended up deciding on this as final look for Fia to use.
(With old version from sketch demo in comparison on the right)
I've tried improving whatever I did on the right without changing up the original design too much.
I've posted some of it before in various places, so some people know the new design already, but since it's never been on here I decided to upload it here as well. I did end up deciding scaling down the head a bit, especially as original Fia looked a bit wide for some reason.
Most lesser character's I've actually ended up removing the sprites for. (Old maid for example, not having played much of a role to begin with, now pretty much gone.)
The main ones I've cleaned up/polished instead. Sara's sketches here for example-
Again the right one being the old one that was done on paper.
Sadly I've never been able to actually put these into proper models for animating, as this was one of the parts I've struggled with later on due to energy/health. There's lot's of sketches, colos and parts prepared most of the models like this, but no actual working rigs or animations. (Besides some facework for Fia.)
Some other stuff I've done...
Since I've never quite been able to finish DM I've tried to make a lots of smaller stuff on the side. Simple games and art in hopes to have something to show, although I've never quite felt confident uploading anything, especially as finishing any of it still was beyond my ability.
One of these little projects and tests was the Tamagotchi, though I've never quite figured out a good inbetween for gameplay and art, when art wasn't really doable for me at the moment.
And since it always kind of turned out to "not be enough" without the art, I tried concentrating on gameplay side of things instead, starting with some general story additions for just the Tama.
Part of this was Aster, a tama only OC which I believe some of you may know from the discord emote.
The idea was to give some sort of goal to the Player, supporting Aster in her struggles and give a little story/gameplay beyond just "Tamagotchi". But I've never quite figured what that gameplay could actually look like, testing tons of random stuff, one of the first being a sort of Cookie Clicker type thing. Or Pokeclicker, so to speek.
It seemed kinda fun at first, you having to keep your mons
happy by "patting"(clicking) them in order to have them gain Exp Candy, which in turn enabled you buying new mons or level your own.
Each mon would have it's own stats, deciding how long you'd have to pet it in order to be happy, how much candy it gains passively, etc...
Beyond that, patting a mon (also dependend on personal stats) had a chance to change it's mood depending on character, causing possble bad moods for "Tsundere" types, or lewd ones if you've befriended them enough over time. (Enabling lewd minigame with CG that would give lots of candy but disable them for a while after.)
The idea seemed fun, I've build everything as modular as possible in order to add on new mons, poses for being pet, cg's for each friendship level, additional outfits, gender- and color swaps all unlockable through candy and needing minimal graphics. (Mon Graphic for the few different moods, being pet, cg and outfit/gender variation per mon.)
At that point it kinda wasn't really a tama anymore though, and being unable to pump out those cg's and mood graphics for different mons also made it feel very bare.
Still fun though, which is why I shelfed it for later plans if needed and now end up here for the time being.
The left side of the screen (gray area) by the way was planned to be a view of the room with the mons, all running around doing random stuff, similar to the old Mini Tama sketches I've uploaded in the past, with camera zooming in/focusing the tama clicked in UI. That would have increased the workload a bit obviously depending on how many sprites for different actions I'd end up using, but as this was visual only I've left it gray for the prototypes.
Other Tama related stuff
I also played around with some 2D/3D shenanigans trying to reduce workload on backgrounds, using 3D renders as 2D BG and simply throwing on some lightmaps for atmosphere, but that wasn't as cute nor would it have changed the amount of sprites needed for the different mon activities if I were to use this method.
I did show off a few of Fia's acitivity sprites already over time, but also made some for Aster. (Her being the unique Tama story Braixen and all)
As in Braixen Creator, you'd style and dress your tama in styles you've unlocked in order to take photos of your tama, different styles, outfits and locations each presenting certain categories.
Using the Tama's own level in said category (plus some additional Player related values like camera, photo timing, etc) you'd then get points awarded for said picture taken, ala Poke Snap style, allowing you to save it to your album where it increases your mons following and earn money.
There's a lot more internal numbers stuff to it. Picture value sinking over time, repeat thematics/poses in the album at the same time lowering points, etc...
The general idea however was to increase your following by befriending, dressing and leveling your tama, just doing the tama stuff that was already planned, then rise in ranks against other mons. (Those being a mix of predetermined story and randomized ones)
All of this would be pretty easy to implement, Braixen creator being already there and photo mode being nothing but a snapshot of numbers taken and calculated. Main problem again would be art, the old model never having been finished, the new ones never even having been started. Adding to that some CG poses if possible for "special pictures, there's that drawing needed again.
Categories are pretty much the original contest stats, as seen here in an hack UI job I did for a prototype. xD
Adding the general tama gameplay on top, talking with and/or going out, training to increase stats and unlock different styles, it sounds pretty fun, but despite of how easy it is to put together still a lot of work. I never got around to do it due to bare graphics feeling off. Which made it hard to decide if it actually was fun or worth pursuing.
Sadly, that's all there really is to show I've been able to do over time.
Little things inbetween whenever I felt good enough.
The rewritten scenes for DM I'd like to share as well, but do not feel quite confident enough yet.
So I might hopefully return with them eventually.
Other than that, there's the smaller attempts and sketches for animations and characters.
Some possible Aster as Delphox sketches, I tried a couple of different sizes and styles, but ended up really liking this one. (There's more, but mostly nsfw, having put a link here to not flash anyone)
Uncensored NSFW Stuff here, you've been warned D:
